GWINNETT COUNTY, GA– The Gwinnett County Police Department Homicide Unit has arrested a 21-year-old Forest Park man in connection with the death of his younger sibling.
Almauri Drummond has been charged with Cruelty to Children in the Second Degree, Murder in the Second Degree, and Reckless Conduct in connection with his younger sibling’s death, police announced on Friday, Jan. 16, following the Jan. 8 incident.
Drummond told the two juveniles who found a gun to hide it from their father, rather than alerting an adult, police said.
Officers were dispatched to the 6000 block of Green Hill Drive regarding the shooting involving two juveniles. One of the juveniles was shot and died as a result of the injuries.
It was discovered the juveniles located a firearm and contacte, their older brother, Almauri Drummond to notify him. The juveniles later sent Drummond a video showing them firing the weapon in their backyard. Drummond instructed the juveniles to hide the firearm from their father. At no point did Drummond attempt to notify an adult or take steps to secure the firearm and remove it from the juveniles’ access, authorities said.
“Firearm ownership is a serious responsibility. When firearms are not handled or stored in a way that prevents access by children, the consequences can be tragic, and individuals may face criminal charges depending on the circumstances,” the Gwinnett Police Department said in a statement.
