DECATUR GA–DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announced the conviction by jury trial of two men accused in a deadly gas station shootout. A third suspect is still at large.

On Nov. 7, 2025, jurors found Jeremy Collins, 29, guilty of Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony in connection with the shooting death of Keng Wilson, 20. Jurors also found Joshua Ontario Simpson, 29, guilty of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm by First Offender Probationer, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Nora Polk, who presided over the trial, sentenced Collins to Life in Prison plus five years. She sentenced Simpson to 25 years, to serve 15 years in custody with the balance on probation.

While awaiting trial, Collins was granted bond against the recommendation of the State. Collins was present for the beginning of the trial but did not return to the Courthouse during jury deliberations, the reading of the verdict, or his sentencing. The judge made the decision, pursuant to the law, to continue on in his absence. On Thursday, Jan. 15, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service in Alabama, arrested Collins in Jefferson County, Alabama following an altercation with law enforcement authorities.

According to the murder investigation, on July 8, 2021, officers with the DeKalb County Police Department responded to a call of a person shot at a gas station on Rockbridge Road in Stone Mountain. Upon arrival, officers found Wilson unresponsive, with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Witnesses at the scene described a shootout between the victim and multiple shooters, as well as a gold SUV involved in the altercation.

Surveillance video showed Wilson arrive at the gas station, walk around the side of the building and walk inside the store. When Wilson returned to fill his car with gas, Defendant Simpson was leaning on the hood and the two exchanged words. During the argument, a gold SUV pulled into the parking lot behind the victim’s car. The driver got out and distracted the victim while Simpson removed a gun from his waistband and walked around to the front of Wilson’s vehicle to prevent him from leaving.

The driver of the gold SUV got back into the vehicle. When the victim reached for a gun, Collins, Simpson, and a still-unidentified shooter all opened fire, striking Wilson multiple times.  Collins, the unidentified shooter, and the SUV all fled to a neighboring apartment complex.

The driver of the SUV identified Defendant Simpson. Simpson was located and arrested in California on August 2, 2021. Photos of the other two shooters were released to the media in 2023. A tip to the District Attorney’s tip line led to the identification of Defendant Collins. He was taken into custody in Jefferson County, Alabama on Aug. 22, 2023.

A surveillance image shows the unidentified third suspect wearing a white long-sleeved t-shirt with a large graphic, blue jeans and a patterned bucket hat. Anyone with information about the suspect should call the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office Tip Line at (404) 371-2444.

The case, assigned to the Homicide and Gangs Unit, was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Parker Aziz, with assistance from Senior Assistant District Attorney Roland Turner, District Attorney Investigator Lisa Bishop, and Supervising Victim Advocate Millicent Taylor. DeKalb County Police Department Detective Evans led the initial investigation.
