ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA— Tonya Bloodworth, a longtime distinguished educator and community leader, was sworn into office as the newest member of the Rockdale County Board of Education at the board’s work session.
Bloodworth’s aunt, Mary McCrimmon, and her cousin, Jeffery Dinkins, stood beside her during the swearing-in ceremony administered by Rockdale Superior Court Judge Nancy N. Bills.
Bloodworth is completing the four-year term of Justin T. Kenny, set to expire Dec. 31, 2028. The Rockdale County Public Schools District issued a formal call to the public to fill the unexpired term. Applications, including a letter of interest and resume, were directed to Judge Bills and reviewed and voted on by the remaining members of the seven-member.

Bloodworth is a retired educator with more than 30 years of service in public education, including over 18 years in educational leadership. Her distinguished career includes service in the Savannah–Chatham County, DeKalb County, and Rockdale County Public School systems.
Bloodworth earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from South Carolina State University and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College in Boston, Massachusetts.
She taught English at Rockdale High School and later served as principal of Edwards Middle School and Salem High School. In 2019, Bloodworth was appointed as the first Family Engagement Director for Rockdale County Public Schools. She has also been a presenter at numerous conferences and professional forums.
