LAWRENCEVILLE, GA– Gwinnett County is calling on the community to help identify local military veterans who have reached their 100th birthday or beyond.
In honor of Veterans Day this November and as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary commemorations, District 3 Commissioner Jasper Watkins is launching a special initiative to celebrate Gwinnett County’s centenarian service members.
“As a fellow veteran, I know what dedication it takes to answer our nation's call, and reaching 100 years of age is a milestone that deserves to be celebrated,” said Commissioner Watkins. “Our centenarian service members represent the best of Gwinnett and America. Displaying their stories outside the Justice and Administration Center in the year our nation turns 250 is just a small way to spotlight their legacy of courage, sacrifice and service and ensure it’s not forgotten.”
To honor their bravery and historic contributions, customized pole flags featuring each veteran’s photo, name, rank, branch of service and conflict will be displayed outside the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center throughout the Veterans Day holiday week.
Residents who are centenarian veterans, or who know a veteran living in Gwinnett who is 100 years old or older, are encouraged to complete the online form or submit their photo, name, rank, branch of service and conflict via email to Neshanta.Banks@GwinnettCounty.com so they can be included in this milestone recognition.
All submissions must be received no later than Tuesday, Sept. 1.
