ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) is launching its first-ever online real estate surplus auctions.
The initiative marks a significant step in expanding public access to surplus property opportunities by making auctions available to qualified bidders across Georgia and beyond through a transparent, easy-to-access online platform. Currently, the department has approximately 200 parcels available for sale. The current inventory features varied parcel sizes ranging from 0.05 to 17 acres, including suitable development sites, irregular remnant tracts, and wetland mitigated sites. Additional surplus real estate opportunities can be found on an ongoing basis.
“Moving our surplus real estate auctions online helps us reach a much broader audience and ensures that more people have the opportunity to learn about and participate in these sales,” said Katrina Anderson, Assistant State Right of Way Administrator with Georgia DOT. “The new platform provides a convenient and transparent way that makes it easier for interested buyers to access information, research properties and engage in the auction process from wherever they are.”
The initial phase of the program will feature three real estate auctions, with approximately 100 additional surplus parcels expected to be offered online in the future. By transitioning these sales to an online marketplace, Georgia DOT aims to increase awareness of available properties while making participation more convenient for potential buyers.
Online auctions remove many of the traditional barriers associated with in-person sales, allowing potential bidders to review property information, conduct due diligence, and participate from any location with internet access. Property details, photographs, bidding timelines, and auction terms will be available online, providing a streamlined experience for both first-time and experienced bidders.
