ATLANTA, GA—Early this morning, local American Red Cross volunteers from the Atlanta area responded to an apartment fire on Windmont Drive NE in Brookhaven, GA. Red Cross volunteers part of the Disaster Action Team were on the scene to help coordinate emergency aid to those affected. They assisted more than a dozen families for a total of 73 people. At this time, a reception center has opened for residents who have been displaced. They will receive meals, and comfort, while officials determine if those in unaffected units may return home. ATLANTA—Post 3 At-Large Atlanta City Council member Keisha Sean Waites will host a Thanksgiving luncheon for the Atlanta Police Department and homeless families from on Thursday, Nov. 23, noon to 2 p.m., at Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Ave. S.W. The event will provide a festive meal to people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity while expressing gratitude to the Atlanta Police officers who are working to keep the city safe on Thanksgiving Day,Councilmember Waites stated in a news release. DECATUR, GA— The Board of Registration and Elections (BRE) certified the results of the Nov. 7, 2023, General Municipal/Special Election on Nov. 14. More than 69,700 registered DeKalb County voters exercised their right to vote. STONECREST, GA—The  City of Stonecrest is teaming up with several organizations to host a turkey and food box giveaway on Saturday, Nov. 18, beginning at noon at the Browns Mill Recreation Center, 5101 Browns Mill Road in the city of Stonecrest. STONECREST, GA—The 12 public schools located within the city limits will receive additional resources to help students excel and thrive, thanks to the city’s allocation of $1.2 million to the DeKalb County School District (DCSD).
