DEKALB COUNTY, GA—The DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) is hosting a Senior Safety Summit on Nov. 1 at Shy Temple CME Church, 2030 Wesley Chapel Road, Decatur. DEKALB COUNTY, GA—Two brothers—Edrick Agee, 35, of Forest Park, and Treon Fortson, 41 of Riverdale—were found guilty on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in a case involving a series of violent armed robberies where they targeted victims at apartment complexes along Buford Highway in Brookhaven. The robberies took place from Dec. 13, 2019 through Jan. 24, 2020. DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announced the convictions by jury trial. Customers in the area may experience low to no water during the repair. GWINNETT COUNTY, GA—A 23-year-old woman has been charged with the death of her child who was found with multiple stab wounds in an apartment fire. The child has been identified as 6-year-old Jayveon Pruitt, Gwinnett County Police said in a news release today, Oct. 24. The young boy’s mother, A’zaria Shante Burton, of Peachtree Corners, has been charged with Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Arson 1st Degree, Aggravated Assault, Tampering with Evidence, Possession of a Knife during the Commission of Certain Crimes, and Cruelty to Children 1st Degree. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) announced that Georgia was awarded $83 million in funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). It’s part of $3.7 billion being released nationwide to help lower heating costs for American families this winter. Administered through the Administration for Children and Families’ Office of Community Services at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the funding will help individuals and families with low incomes pay their home heating costs this winter, and with cooling bills in the summer. DECATUR, GA– A partial lane closure will occur on West Ponce de Leon Avenue, between Clairemont Avenue to Marshall Street, beginning Tuesday, Oct. 24, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The partial lane closure will allow DeKalb County Watershed to begin daytime work to repair a failed sewer main in the 100 block of West Ponce de Leon Avenue, weather permitting.   Signs and flaggers will be in the area during the road closure to advise motorists of construction work in the area and of local traffic restrictions.
