ATLANTA — In 2021, Georgia’s Division of Aging Services will revamp food programs in senior centers and provide nutrition services during emergencies using funds from a nutrition innovation grant awarded by the Administration for Community Living. The three-year grant project, called Food for Thought: Equipping Senior Centers for the Next Emergency, will become the newest centerpiece in Georgia’s Senior Hunger initiative, which seeks to reduce food insecurity among Georgia’s elderly population. Three men suspected in multiple thefts in metro Atlanta are now in custody after targeting Home Depot in Conyers for high-end lawnmowers. Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, Conyers Police and the DeKalb County Police Department worked together to arrest Tracy Lavern Morris, 56, Decatur; Correy Terrell Robinson, 43, Conyers; and David Louis McWhinney, 37, Atlanta. All three men were taken to the Rockdale County Jail, following a chase where one of the suspects fled to DeKalb County. The DeKalb County Department of Planning and Sustainability is seeking public input on the county’s Five-Year Comprehensive Plan Update. The department will hold public meeting via Zoom on Thursday, Oct. 22, 5 to 6 p.m. To join the meeting, go to https://dekalbcountyga.zoom.us/j/91524396384. This is a mandatory five-year update required by the Department of Community Affairs that every county must comply with in order to maintain its Qualified Local Government status. DeKalb County District 2 Commissioner Jeff Rader has appropriated $800,000 for a Nonprofit Rapid Recovery Grant Program for nonprofit agencies that have their headquarters or primary location in District 2. The nonprofit agency must have either lost the ability to operate, been forced to close, have become negatively impacted by the COVID-19 crisis, or laid off or furloughed employees. Priority will be given to non-recipients of the Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program. Agencies must meet nonprofit minimum thresholds to become a grant recipient.
