ATLANTA—Eight-year-old Secoriea Turner will be laid to rest on Wednesday, July 15, 11 a.m., at New Calvary Missionary Church, 1690 Melrose Drive, Atlanta. Stonecrest Mayor Jason Lary, along with other city officials signed pre-closing documents today, July 14, 2020, to execute the Stonecrest Urban Redevelopment Agency (URA) $5.4 million bond deal. The transaction included the purchase of the former Sears building and the Tax Anticipation Note for the former Sam’s Club building, which will house the city’s new City Hall and government services. On Friday and Saturday, DeKalb County Government will partner with Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB) along with Antioch AME, Welcome Friend Baptist and New Birth Missionary Baptist churches to provide 1,350 boxes of food to DeKalb residents. Stone crest Mayor Jason Lary announced today that he is removing the stop work order placed on the construction of Metro Green Recycling earlier this month. After consulting with the city attorney, the mayor said that is not wise to maintain an order that could place the city in legal jeopardy. DeKalb County students will start the new school year online on Aug. 17, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the district has announced. The DeKalb Board of Education approved delaying the start of the 2020-21 school year at its board meeting on July 13. Students were scheduled to return on Aug. 3 but following guidance from state public health officials and community feedback from an input study, the district devised a plan for students to return to school virtually. On the evening of July 10, an employee of the Clerk’s office notified management that they had tested positive for COVID-19. The employee is a deputy clerk and typically interacts with the public. Individuals who had direct contact with the employee have been notified and directed to self-quarantine and/or self-monitor.
