ATLANTA – State Rep. Vernon Jones (D-Lithonia) today announced that he will introduce the Jones Amendment when the 2020 Legislative Session resumes that will accompany other hate crime legislation to make it punishable by law to commit a crime based on a person’s political party affiliation or ideology. Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) announced on June 8 that Newton County would receive nearly $100,000 from the Department of Justice’s Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding program (CESF). The Rockdale County Recycling Center, 1200 Sigman Road, Conyers, is expanding its days of operation and services. Beginning on June 9, the center will increase operations from two to three days per week – on Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to household garbage, residents can begin dropping off recyclables and yard debris on June 9— at no cost to Rockdale residents. Bulk waste will not be accepted during this time. Construction set to repair aging sewer pipe   On Wednesday, June 10, a single-lane closure is set to begin along Glenwood Road, between Moseri Road and Danrich Drive, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. while crews work to rehabilitate approximately 290 linear feet of aging, ductile-iron sewer pipe. This section of Glenwood Road will reopen on Thursday, June 11.
