The City of Conyers offices will reopen to the public on Monday, May 18, officials have announced. Officials said they made the decision after reviewing information provided by the Georgia Department of Health and seeing a positive trend in the decline of cases of COVID-19 locally. Rockdale County will open one precinct amidst COVIC-18 pandemic Georgia’s early in-person voting begins on Monday, May 18, for the general primary on June 9, and Rockdale County elections officials say their plan is in place. Early in-person voting in Rockdale will take place at one location: 1400 Parker Road, said Rockdale Supervisor of Elections Cynthia Willingham. STONECREST—New Birth Missionary Baptist Church provided nearly 2,000 people with free, drive-thru COVID-19 testing on Sunday, May 10, during its Mother’s Day event. Dr. Rudy Crew will not become the next superintendent of the DeKalb County School District. The Board of Education on Monday, May 11, voted 4-3 against giving Crew, the sole finalist, a contract for the job. Board Chair Marshall Orson, Vice Chair Vickie Turner and Board Member Allyson Gevertz cast the three yes votes to hire Crew, while board members Diijon DaCosta, Michael Erwin, Stan Jester and Joyce Morley cast the four votes against him. Gwinnett County and Gwinnett County Public Schools are teaming up to help ease hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic by continuing to feed Gwinnett’s children during the summer. On Friday, May 15, Gwinnett County Public Schools will wrap up the meal service it has provided for the last two months to Gwinnett children 18 years and younger. This service has provided more than 2.2 million meals at 67 school locations and included delivery by school buses within identified clusters.
