Due to travel precautions, Itzhak Perlman has decided to cancel his March 11 appearance with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Pinchas Zukerman has graciously agreed to join former Music Director Yoel Levi and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for this performance of Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1. On Wednesday, March 11, lane closures are set to begin for sections of South Candler Street between Green Street and Bruton Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., while crews work to rehabilitate approximately 670 linear feet of aging, ductile-iron sewer pipe. These sections of South Candler Street will reopen on Friday, March 13, 2020. The DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management has initiated this construction project as a part of ongoing maintenance to repair approximately 100,000 linear feet of sewer pipe to improve sewer service county-wide. Daniel Corwell, 48, is facing several charges including possession and manufacturing of an explosive device after planting six pipe bombs at the Clairmont Terrace Condominiums in DeKalb County where he lived. DeKalb police spokesperson Michaela Vincent said the DeKalb County Police Bomb Squad discovered at least five pipe bombs inside the suspect’s home. The controversy surrounding SB 469 continues to build in the city of Stonecrest. Citizens have started an online petition to stop Georgia Senate Bill 469, which would dramatically change the city of Stonecrest’s form of government. Citizens say the bill was put together without hearing from the majority of citizens. The online petition was shared on Facebook around 4 p.m. today. Fulton County schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, March 10 after determining that an employee was infected with coronavirus. The school district announced just after 2 p.m. that it was informed today about the infection. The district said students at impacted schools were released early Monday after reports confirmed the positive case. Officials said the employee is being treated at a local hospital. “This closure will allow us to clean and sanitize affected schools as well as share additional details of our ongoing plan,” it said. Georgia officials are setting up emergency operations at Hard Labor Creek State Park in Morgan County to transfer people who may have been exposed to COVID-19. Gov. Brian Kemp and the Departments of Public Health, Public Safety and Natural Resources announced today that a section of the park would be isolated for use to transfer and monitor patients. A $1.9 million investment will continue DeKalb County’s ongoing deployment of automated side loader (ASL) trucks. DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond proposed the funding for the Sanitation Division in the Fiscal Year 2020 budget, which was unanimously approved by the Board of Commissioners on March 3. The upgrade to ASL garbage trucks was initially proposed as part of DeKalb’s 2015 “Rolling Forward to One” initiative. The plan was to consolidate collection to once per week, avoid a near-term rate increase, reduce pollution and reallocate staff.
