Stonecrest Mayor Jason Lary has been on the front lines of increasing awareness about cancer. This past Saturday(Oct. 13), Lary joined DeKalb County’s Marbut Theme School for its breast cancer awareness walk. Lary, who was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, is urging the public to get regular health checkups as he undergoes treatment an looks forward to recovery. “Early detection is the key ” he said.  “I’m exercising, eating better and keeping a positive outlook.”

Helping Hands Outreach Clinic, 2442 Lake Rockaway Road, Conyers, is hosting a series of workshops designed to teach individuals the basics of diabetes, how to self-manage diabetes, how to follow a diabetic-friendly diet, and therapeutic ways to manage stress, which can impact diabetes control. Georgia Power in final stages of restoration effort  ATLANTA –As of noon today (Oct. 15), Georgia Power has restored power to 97 percent, or more than 375,000 customers, impacted by Hurricane Michael. Restoration is expected to be completed in the Albany area this evening and in the Bainbridge area by tomorrow night. The company has more than 5,800 personnel working around the clock to restore power for the approximately 15,000 customers located in the hardest hit areas of Southwest Georgia that received the most destructive damage from Hurricane Michael. Four percent across-the-board raise valued at $7.1 million Today, DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond recommended to the county Board of Commissioners a four-percent public safety salary increase, effective the first pay period in November 2018. As Secretary of State Brian Kemp announced that Georgia has shattered its all-time voter registration record with more than 6,915,000 voters on the rolls, several civil rights groups have united to demand his resignation.  The groups say Kemp’s office reportedly purged more half a million legitimate voters from the rolls over a two-year period.
