For the sake of DeKalb County…particularly South DeKalb County.. I’m hoping for positive change with the school board.
School boards are supposed to see about the well being about their students, their education and the administration. We have seen two different superintendents go ( for two different reasons),lots of infighting and not one solution in sight. I’m always amazed on how we have these boards ” care ” for these kids but at the same time hurt them( the kids), community and county. I’m pleasantly surprised that our schools are still accredited. This is what happened with Clayton County and almost happened with Cobb 2 years ago.
The Governor of Florida has declared war on education by doing away with African American history. Though its better that your elders teach people about,it is part of American/ World history that should accurately be taught in the classroom .There should be more people protesting against his gesture. Whether its about history or any other subject, education is beyond important. Imagine going to a grocery store and you can’t decipher almond milk from regular milk because you can’t barely read, not knowing what 2 +2 is or being ill prepared to go to college because you’re not up to grade level? Some will argue that education starts with the parents and I’m 100 percent on board with that, but teachers are supposed to accentuate it. Sadly, the board seems to be more concerned about what your child is wearing. What for? It didn’t raise any test scores and / improve academics.
Students deserves better. South DeKalb also deserves better.
