Rockdale County 4-H members win big in district public speaking competition

ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA–Three members of Rockdale County’s 4-H team won first place in the 2022-2023 4-H District Project Achievement Competition, which was held in Eatonton, GA.

Roderick Sneed presented and won in the Engineering and Mechanics category. Kelsey Andries won in the Performing Arts Drama category, and Crosby McFall won in the Public Speaking category. Among the 57 youths from the Northwest District, these three will advance to the state-level competition this summer. The students will spend a week in Atlanta competing to become a Master 4-H’er, the highest honor a Georgia 4-H’er can achieve.

The Georgia 4-H Project Achievement program empowers young people with skills for a lifetime. Students choose a project area of interest, research the topic, and prepare and deliver a presentation in the category they choose.

In total, 405 youths across the Northwest District traveled to the Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton to compete in the Junior/Senior District Project Achievement Competition. Rockdale County was represented by 13 4-H members  who had prepared for months. Additionally, the youths work year-round to prepare a portfolio/resume document for their project area.

“Rockdale County 4-H staff is incredibly proud of all competing 4-Hers for stepping outside their comfort zone and showing Americans that public speaking should not be feared; it should be fun,” the organization stated in a news release.
