ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA– Rockdale County has extended its moratorium on the acceptance, processing, and approval of applications related to the establishment or expansion of data centers and battery energy storage systems through Sept. 8, 2026.
The extension, approved through Resolution No. 2026-12, amends Resolution No. 2026-01 and allows the County additional time to continue reviewing policies, land use/zoning considerations, infrastructure needs, and potential community impacts associated with these types of developments.
Rockdale County is also continuing its broader efforts to gather public input through the County’s Unified Development Ordinance Update, also known as the UDO process. The UDO update is intended to create a streamlined document that consolidates zoning, subdivision, environmental and sign regulations, while helping guide responsible development consistent with the County’s long-term vision. Community members are encouraged to review draft materials, participate in public meetings, and share feedback as part of this ongoing process.
In addition to the data center and battery energy storage systems moratorium, Rockdale County also has extended two other moratoria through Sept. 8, 2026:
Resolution No. 2026-13 extends and amends Resolution No. 2025-31 regarding the acceptance, processing and approval of applications for certain residential care facilities.
Resolution No. 2026-14 amends Resolution Nos. 2025-05, 2025-17 and 2026-05, further extending the moratorium on the acceptance, processing and approval of applications related to certain residential development activities.
Together, the three moratorium extensions support the County’s ongoing efforts to evaluate land use, infrastructure, community impacts and development standards in a thoughtful and responsible manner. These extensions also provide additional time for Rockdale County to continue engaging residents, business owners and stakeholders as the County works to update its development regulations and strengthen opportunities for public participation.
Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to get involved in the UDO process by visiting RockdaleUDO.com, where they can review draft materials, learn about upcoming meetings and provide feedback.
