NAACP DeKalb sponsors 21st Annual MLK Day Parade, Rob Hardy to serve as Grand Marshall

DECATUR, GA—The NAACP DeKalb County Branch is sponsoring its 21^st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Parade on Monday, Jan. 16.

The parade will start at 10:30 a.m. at Green Pastures Christian Church, 5455 Flat Shoals Pkwy, Decatur and ending at Martin Luther King Jr. High School.

The theme of this year’s parade is “Sound The Alarm” because there is still work to be done in our community, the NAACP stated in a news release.

 “Our mission is to achieve equity, political rights, and social inclusion by advancing policies and practices that expand human and civil rights, eliminate discrimination, and accelerate the well-being, education, and economic security of Black people and all persons of color,” the news release stated. 

This year’s Parade Grand Marshall is Rob Hardy, director and executive producer of the pilot episode of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, which is currently filming its third season. Hardy previously directed and executive produced the pilot episode for All American, which is filming its’ fifth season on The CW network. Hardy is also set to produce the upcoming Amazon Studios Viola Davis film, Two Butterflies.

NAACP DeKalb President Lance Hammonds said he is excited about this year’s parade.

“This is the first in-person parade we have been able to hold since 2020, due to COVID-19. We view this year’s parade as a new beginning for our branch and the community,” Hammonds said. 

The NAACP DeKalb is seeking volunteers and participants. The organization is  offering community service hours for high school students who want to volunteer.
