DECATUR, GA—Orrin “Checkmate” Hudson, founder of Be Someone Inc., will be teaching chess lessons at Stan Watson’s Free Community Breakfast on Saturday, April 1, at Southwest DeKalb High School.
Hudson will be teaching from 8:15 to 9 a.m. and he is urging parents to bring their children to the event. The breakfast meeting will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Hudson, a motivational speaker and chess champion, has dedicated his life to helping at-risk youths through the game of chess. He has trained over 88,000 students through his Be Someone academy and has traveled internationally to spread positive life lessons through the game.
“I’m excited to be a part of the Stan Watson Free Community Breakfast,” said Hudson. “Chess is a game that teaches valuable life skills such as strategy, critical thinking, and perseverance. I’m looking forward to sharing these lessons and helping to build a stronger, more resilient community.”
The foundation of Hudson’s instruction is teaching young people there are consequences for every move they make whether on the chess board or in life. “Unfortunately, we are reminded daily of kids making the wrong decisions and paying for it over a lifetime, or worse, with their life,” he explained.
The DeKalb Legislative Community Cabinet breakfast is a monthly event that brings the community together for a morning of food, fun and fellowship.
“I encourage everyone to come out to this free event and take advantage of the opportunity to learn from Orrin Hudson,” said event organizer, Stan Watson. “Orrin is an inspirational figure who has dedicated his life to helping young people reach their full potential.”
