Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has declared a State of Emergency ahead of Tropical Storm Helene, which is expected to bring damaging winds, heavy rain and possible flooding in coastal areas as the storm moves inland from Florida.
“I have declared a State of Emergency enabling emergency management teams to prepare for and direct resources well in advance of the storm’s arrival ” Gov. Kemp said on X.
The storm is expected to reach Florida as a major hurricane with potentially devastating storm surge, according to The Weather Channel. Helene is forecast to move fast during and after landfall, possibly late Thursday or Friday. National Hurricane Center forecasters are putting Georgia on alert now to be prepared for strong winds and heavy rain.
