LAWRENCEVILLE, GA–– From Nov. 4-11, the Armed Forces Monument at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center will glow green as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans, a national initiative that shows support for our service members.
“Each November, we turn our lights green as a small token of appreciation for those who served our country, but our gratitude doesn’t end when the lights go off,” said Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson. “We remain committed to ensuring veterans and their families have the resources and support they need every day of the year.”
Residents, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to join the County’s celebration of Operation Green Light by illuminating their own homes and buildings from Nov. 4 to 11. Whether on a porch, in a window or at a storefront, each green light is a public sign of gratitude for those who served.
Gwinnett’s weeklong celebration of veterans kicked off with a proclamation presentation on Nov. 3 and culminates with two free events on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Fallen Heroes Memorial, located at 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville.
The County’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony begins at 11 a.m., and the Gwinnett County Stand Down event takes place before and after the ceremony from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., connecting veterans and their families with resources and services. Registration is encouraged at GwinnettCounty.com/StandDown but not required.
Now in its sixth year, Operation Green Light is a nationwide initiative to support veterans by illuminating buildings and homes with green lights during the week of Veterans Day.
By joining this campaign, Gwinnett County honors the sacrifices of local veterans and helps raise awareness of the challenges they face, as well as the resources available to support them.
