So, when my husband, Glenn, and I recently were invited to a fundraiser in Atlanta called “Dining in the Dark,” we went out of curiosity. Librarians expect lots of questions from patrons about where to find a book or DVD they are looking for and what online resource is best for information about car repair. Librarians at DeKalb County Public Library (DCPL) realized they were also getting questions that were much more difficult for them to answer—like “Where do I go if I’m being evicted?” So they decided to do something about it. State Rep. Dar’shun Kendrick (D-Lithonia) will host the Georgia Blacks in Tech Policy Conference on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Atlanta City Hall’s Old Council Chambers in Atlanta. The district-wide contest is sponsored each year by Lexicon Technologies, Snapping Shoals EMC, Evans Tool and Die, The Rotary Club of Conyers and the Rockdale Clerk of Courts. Rockdale County Public Schools teachers were awarded grants from the Snapping Shoals EMC for creative and innovative classroom projects that enriched the learning experience for students.   Capt. Barrington Irving, the youngest person and the first African-American pilot to fly solo around the world, is partnering with Fourth Congressional District Rep. On Saturday, Oct. 21, 1 p.m., DeKalb County’s Miller Grove High School Marching Wolverines will host the Third Annual Battle of the Bands’ Gym Jamboree, which will be held at the school, 2645 DeKalb Medical Parkway, Lithonia.
