ATLANTA—Thousands of businesses and their employees who suffered financial losses after recent water main breaks will get assistance, thanks to the Atlanta City Council’s unanimous approval of the City’s Recovery Fund  on Monday, June 17. The fund increased from a proposed $5M to $7.5M to assist Atlanta businesses and now includes employee compensation compensation (24-O-1301). City officials said the increase was approved to ensure businesses that need help would be assisted and would cover losses not covered by insurance. DECATUR, GA—DeKalb County Voter Registration and Elections (DeKalb VRE) is reminding voters that the General Primary runoff election is Tuesday, June 18.  Polls will be open from 7 a.m. through 7 p.m. On Election Day, voters must go to their assigned precinct.  DECATUR, GA— DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management contractors have restored water on North Carter Road near Russell Drive, officials said Monday, June 17. Contractors were working in the area as part of the Scott Boulevard III Water Replacement Project. As service is restored, customers in the affected area may experience brown water and are encouraged to run the faucets inside and outside their homes/businesses to clear the internal plumbing. DEKALB COUNTY, GA–Two men have been convicted and sentenced for their involvement in a shootout at the Mall At Stonecrest that led to a 26-year-old man’s death, District Attorney Sherry Boston’s office announced. ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA– Rockdale County has been awarded a $145,000 federal grant to establish a  meditation garden for citizens to experience yoga, sound therapy, and other holistic therapy, as well as a demonstration garden for children to learn about agriculture.
