ATLANTA — The Atlanta City Council approved legislation during its July 5 meeting to transfer $3.5 million from the general fund’s uncommitted fund balance to the City of Atlanta’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund in the Fiscal Year 2024 budget (23-O-1331). The $3.5 million will raise the total sum to $11.5 million or 1.5 percent of the general fund budget as outlined in the legislation that established the fund in 2021. DEKALB COUNTY, GA—DeKalb County police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Myrtha Chenevert, 72. She was last seen on July 1, leaving 6074 Great Oaks Drive, Lithonia. Chenevert is 5’10, 170 lbs. with brown eyes and black hair. She was wearing a blue dress and white sneakers. Anyone who sees Chenevert is asked to call 911.
ATLANTA – Marvin S. Arrington, Sr., who formerly served as president of the Atlanta City Council for 17 years and retired as a Fulton County Superior Court Judge, died at home this morning (July 5), his family announced. Mr. Arrington was surrounded by his loved ones at the time he passed away, his family stated in a release. The transformative trailblazer, who helped to galvanize the city from a segregated town into an international metropolis, was 82. LAWRENCEVILLE, GA—Gwinnett County Animal Welfare and Enforcement and the Gwinnett County Health Department advise residents to use caution and avoid animals behaving in unusual ways after another cat tested positive for the rabies virus. On Wednesday, June 28, a kitten residing at 2100 block of Sunny Hill Road in Lawrenceville, bit its owners and veterinary staff. The kitten later tested positive for rabies. Diseases like rabies can be transmitted to humans and pets through bites or scratches from wild animals such as foxes and raccoons.
