Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson sponsors food distribution for military vets

DECATUR, GA—DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran Johnson recently allocated $15,000 in District 7 discretionary funding to the Atlanta Community Food Bank to assist Soldiers’ Angels with three mobile food distributions for veterans impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The second distribution will take place on Friday, Oct. 22, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Atlanta VA Arcadia Clinic, 250 North Arcadia Avenue, Decatur.

Veterans interested in the Oct. 22 food assistance distribution must pre-register by visiting www.soldiersangels.org/atlanta.

Each recipient will receive a box containing approximately 75 pounds of food packed by volunteers and loaded into cars, pushcarts or backpacks of registered veterans.

“I take great pride in supporting our veterans,” said Cochran-Johnson. “They have given so much to ensure the rights that many take for granted. I feel the food distributions are only a small token of the gratitude they deserve for their enormous sacrifice.”

Soldiers’ Angels is a nonprofit that supports military families, deployed service members, wounded heroes and veterans of all eras with aid, comfort, programs and resources.

“In 2020, we supported more than 767,245 service members, veterans and their families across the country,” said John Harris, Atlanta area manager of Soldiers’ Angels. “It is through generous donations and partnerships like these that we are able to continue our efforts year-round.”
