DeKalb Board of Health to hold annual drive-thru flu shot clinic

Anyone who has driven in metro Atlanta traffic knows that it’s bad. However, DeKalb County Board of Health officials are quick to point out that, compared to getting the flu, the misery of sitting in traffic is the least of your worries.

The Board of Health is offering an easy route to getting your flu shot, without even leaving your vehicle.  A drive-thru flu vaccination clinic will be held Friday, Sept. 7, near the Northlake Mall Macy’s, from noon until 6:00 p.m.

A flu shot is recommended for everyone ages six months and older, particularly those who are at high risk of serious complications. This includes young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions (such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease) and people ages 65 and older.

“We’re all about providing convenience to the communities we serve,” said Clinical Operations Manager Don Brundage. “The drive-thru flu shot option is ideal not only for those with limited time, but it’s also convenient for those with limited mobility or who are accompanied by small children.”

Two vaccines will be available, the standard vaccine for $35 and the high-dose vaccine for those ages 65 and older for $65. Aetna, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia, Cigna, Medicaid, Medicare Part B, PeachCare for Kids and State Health Benefit Plan (excluding Kaiser Permanente) will be accepted.  Bring your insurance card. (Please call ahead to verify other acceptable coverage.)  Payment can be made by cash, checks drawn on Georgia banks and credit/debit cards.
