DECATUR, GA– Public access to the DeKalb County Tax Commissioner’s Office online property information website will be unavailable beginning Friday, July 17, at 5 p.m. until Monday, Aug. 3, at 8 a.m. Online property search, e-bills, and payment functions will be inaccessible during this time.
Property owners may call the tax office for assistance regarding homestead exemptions, exemption application status, and delinquent taxes during business hours.
“My office works diligently to prepare for the annual digest submission and calculate property taxes for more than 270,000 real and personal properties,” said Tax Commissioner Nicole Golden. “Once the county’s tax digest is successfully approved by the Georgia Department of Revenue, property tax bills will be mailed later in August
The digest is an official listing of county property and its assessed value. The Tax Commissioner’s Office, in conjunction with the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners, CEO, Tax Assessor’s Office (Property Appraisal), GIS, Board of Education, city governments, and county administration, work together to prepare the tax digest.
Property tax bills are computed based on millage rates set by the governing authorities, the fair market values determined by the county’s property appraisal department, and the assessment valuation of 40%. The bills also reflect any credits (deductions) resulting from EHOST (Equalized Homestead Options Sales Tax), HTRG, and basic, senior, or special homestead exemptions authorized by state and local law.
“We are currently in the process of implementing a new, user-friendly payment portal with improved property search features and convenient e-payment options, including Google Pay, Apple Pay, Venmo, eCheck, and more. Additionally, taxpayers can expect a newly redesigned property tax bill with easy-to-understand tax details, and clear payment information and deadlines.”
The Tax Commissioner’s Office is responsible for property tax billing and collection of taxes based on assessments. Tax bills are expected to be mailed mid-August, following the successful approval of the county’s tax digest by the Georgia Department of Revenue.
