The DeKalb County Recreation Parks and Cultural Affairs is partnering with the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning’s Nutrition Services Division, to host a special summer meal event to remind Georgia families that free nutritious meals are available to children and teens ages 18 and younger throughout the summer. The event will take place on Thursday, July 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Gresham Recreation Center, 3113 Gresham Road, Atlanta.
During the event, children and teens will receive free healthy meals through Happy Helpings, Georgia’s Summer Food Service Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Families also will enjoy a variety of fun and engaging activities, including hopscotch, egg toss, bean bag toss, jump rope, a hydration station, and opportunities to sample fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables.
“Summer is a time for children to stay active, continue learning and have access to healthy meals,” said Christopher Bass, Director of DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs. “We are proud to partner with the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning to ensure families have access to nutritious food in a fun, welcoming environment. Events like this help strengthen our community by supporting the health and well-being of our youth while connecting families with valuable resources.”
