New Birth, Asian American leaders unite in solidarity following Atlanta area shootings

STONECREST, GA– Asian American leaders will join New Birth Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, March 21, at 9:30 a.m. to stand in solidarity after a shooting spree by a lone gunman in the Atlanta area that claimed the lives of eight individuals, six of whom were women of Asian descent.

New Birth Senior Pastor Jamal Bryant will address the recent attack during Sunday’s live service and ask his congregation to stand with Asian Americans to fight systemic racism and violence.

The deadly shooting took place on March 16 at three spas in the metro area. The attack sparked national cry to condemn acts of violence toward Asian Americans.

“Our hearts and prayers are with the families of all those impacted by these tragic events,” said Bryant. “Our hope is to use this tragic and horrific moment to help bring awareness as we stand in unity and solidarity against verbal and physical violence toward Asian Americans.”

Bryant will be joined by representatives from the National Association of Chinese Americans during the service. New Birth will also launch a coordinated social media campaign to increase awareness of hate crimes and violence towards Asian Americans.

“We want our Asian American brothers and sisters to know we not only stand with them in words but also actions and will join in creating a safer, kinder and more compassionate America,” Bryant said.  

New Birth Missionary Baptist Church is located 6400 Woodrow Road, Stonecrest.   

Due to COVID-19 protocols, those who plan to attend the service must wear a face mask and undergo temperature screenings.
