David Manuel, founder of the “I Am A Father 5K” benefit event in DeKalb County, says the walk/run was a huge success, drawing more than 600 participants on June 18, Father’s Day weekend. Last year, 86 participants supported the inaugural 5K walk/run, said Manuel, who was overjoyed by this year’s turnout. The event kicked off and ended at the Porter Sanford Performing Arts Center in Decatur, where Manuel serves as executive director. Various vendors provided checkups, information and activities. Atlanta’s Congressman John Lewis is leading a sit-in today at the Capitol in Washington, D.C., to demand that Republicans move on gun control legislation. Students in the Rockdale County Sheriff Department’s Choose2Change program are getting an up-close look this summer at what happens when people make the wrong decisions. Last weekend, the students spent the night in jail to experience life as an inmate. They received uniforms, bed linens and a toothbrush. Gov. Nathan Deal today announced that Amazon plans to create more than 500 full-time jobs in the Braselton area. The 600,000-square-foot Amazon fulfillment center in Jackson County will be used for packing and shipping large items such as household décor, sporting equipment and gardening tools. Best Buy in Conyers was burglarized at 3:50 a.m. on Friday, June 17.  Two suspects broke through a receiving garage door and stole drones and gaming consoles.  The same location was burglarized on May 9, 2016 in a similar manner.  See video of both incidents.
