Fulcher received 36.96 percent, according to results released tonight(Aug. 11). With no Republicans in the race, Morris will succeed James Cabe, who was sworn into office in March after Ruth Wilson retired. About 100 demonstrators protested outside Stonecrest City Hall today(Aug. 10), demanding that city officials issue a stop work order for the construction of the Metro Green Recycling Plant at 2450 Miller Road. The protest was held at 6:30 p.m. as the City Council met virtually for its Work Session/City Council meeting. Angry residents say the plant will bring pollution, truck traffic, noise and lower residential property values. Residents are demanding that city officials halt the construction immediately. The DeKalb County Police released the following press release:   A man exhibiting erratic behavior was arrested Aug. 7 after damaging a police car and trying to enter another vehicle.   At approximately 3:10 p.m. on Aug. 7, the man began striking and damaging the police car of an off-duty DeKalb County Police officer who was in the drive-through of the Burger King, located at 2773 Evans Mill Roadgmor.   When the officer exited the drive-through, an individual alerted the officer that the suspect had tried to enter his vehicle before going into a nearby bushy lot.   The DeKalb…

The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will reopen Sugar Creek Golf and Tennis on Monday, Aug. 10, 7:30 a.m., at 2706 Bouldercrest Road, Atlanta. After closing in the fall of 2017, Sugar Creek Golf and Tennis reopened in December 2019. The golf course closed again in March 2020 after erosion caused safety issues with the golf cart bridges. Since 2017, the golf course has undergone a $2.2 million renovation. Photos By Glenn L. Morgan Today (Aug. 7), the Rev. Dr. Noel Battle, a civil rights activist, entrepreneur, educator and pastor, was brought to the City of Stonecrest to lie in repose at City Hall. Dr. Battle Battle died on July 28 at Emory St. Joseph Hospital after an extended illness, according to his wife of 62 years, Martha Battle.  Dr. Battle was 87. Dr. Battle’s death follows that of two Atlanta civil rights giants: The Rev. C.T. Vivian, and Congressman John Lewis, who both died on July 17.
