JenCare Senior Medical Center announced that the company would donate four eight-passenger vans to Atlanta-area organizations that are meeting the needs of seniors. DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson sponsored an agenda item and the Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to receive the van donation for the South DeKalb Senior Center.
“A special thanks to JenCare for this van donation as this is about wellness, and connecting mind, body and spirit while working together,” DeKalb County Commissioner Johnson said. “Our seniors are some of the best people in the world and they deserve to have the best transportation in the world. That’s what we are doing today by connecting and building these public-private partnerships with organizations that care about the livelihood and well-being of our seniors.”
JenCare operates four senior-focused medical practices in Atlanta, Decatur, East Point and Morrow, Georgia. The donation comes as JenCare pivots to respond to COVID-19 concerns. Prior to the pandemic, JenCare patients were provided transportation to and from medical appointments as part of the company’s business model. Earlier in the year, JenCare partnered with Uber Health to transport patients to minimize exposure to the virus. Since then, the company has finalized its transition to a telehealth model.
“We’re excited to continue to partner with organizations that local seniors rely on for a variety of programs and services, including reliable transportation,” said Hermina Yarde, general manager of JenCare Georgia. “Our seniors are our communities’ greatest assets, and it’s important, now more than ever, that we go above and beyond to ensure that their needs are met.”
On Oct. 12, South DeKalb Senior Center celebrated its fifth year since the grand opening of its new center. The van will be an asset to the South DeKalb Senior Center to help provide essential transportation to those that may not traditionally have access.
