On Tuesday, May 22, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management (DWM) will begin single lane closures near 2021 Glendale Drive, Decatur, GA. Closures will remain in effect for several weeks until Phase 1 of the Glendale Water Main Replacement Project is completed. Signs will be placed in the area advising motorists about construction work and local traffic restrictions. Flaggers will also be present to direct motorists safely through the construction work zone. The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) invites kindergarten through fourth grade students to enjoy a summer of reading in June 2018. The DCSD Office of Federal Programs will host a Summer Literacy Camp June 4 through June 28, Monday through Thursday, at 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The camps will be held at five schools in DeKalb County—John R. Lewis Elementary, Smoke Rise Elementary, Wynbrook Elementary, Marbut Elementary and Wadsworth Magnet. Gwinnett Clerk of Court Richard Alexander will offer two notary public training classes for the public. Working in conjunction with the Georgia Superior Court Clerks’ Cooperative Authority (GSCCCA), the Gwinnett Clerk of Superior Court’s office will host two training classes on June 20. Early voting for the General and Nonpartisan General Election in Rockdale ended on Friday, May 18, with 5,312 ballots cast, Rockdale Supervisor of Elections Cynthia Welch reported. The county has 56,656 eligible active voters and officials are urging voters who have not cast their ballots to come out on May 22, Election Day. In addition to several local races to be decided, county residents are being asked to support a referendum to build a $140 million courthouse complex. Gospel radio announcer Larry Tinsley will be honored on Monday, May 21, 1 p.m., by the Atlanta City Council for 50 years in radio broadcasting. Only 21,545 voters had cast their ballots when the Early Voting period for the General and Non-Partisan Elections ended on Friday, May 18. There are 471,449 active voters in DeKalb County. The city of Stonecrest is finalizing plans for the upcoming Caribbean Carnival, which is expected to bring an epic crowd to the new city on Memorial Day weekend. “This will be the largest event Stonecrest has ever hosted. We’re looking forward to it,” said Mayor Jason Lary, who will be one of the grand marshals for the event, which kicks off with a parade on Saturday, May 26, 12:30 p.m., on Mall Parkway.
