WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04), Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet, introduced the Cybersecurity Opportunity Act to fund a cybersecurity grant education program at Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Serving Institutions. The Cybersecurity Opportunity Act would direct the Secretary of Homeland Security to award at least 50 percent of existing cybersecurity grants to HBCUs for five years for increasing research, education, technical, partnership, and innovation capacity. The Clarkston Angoras hosted the Druid Hills Red Devils tonight (Thursday) to open up a six-game home slate this weekend in DeKalb County. Clarkston (1-3) is coming off a loss to Fellowship Christian last weekend and is looking to win its second game of the season for the first time since a 4-5-1 season in 2013. CONYERS, GA –Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04), announced that the Conyers Police Department and the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Department are receiving federal grants to help boost their community policing efforts. The Conyers Police Department is receiving $132,000 and the Rockdale Sheriff’s Department is receiving $125,000 from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services or COPS. The Conyers PD will use the grant funds to help establish crisis intervention teams, while the Rockdale Sheriff’s Department will use its funds for microgrants to promote positive interactions and outcomes for youths via the department’s Youth Engagement Program.…

The 41st Annual Olde Town Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Head to Main Street for a day of arts and craft vendors, food, entertainment and children’s activities. DECATUR, GA– DeKalb County Cooperative Extension will host “Walking Past the Dead Tree Tour” on Saturday, Oct. 30, 1 to 4 p.m. at Decatur’s Historic Cemetery, 299 Bell St. Decatur. Learn about some of Decatur’s trees, tree types, and tree needs from local arborists who will be stationed along a walking trail through the historic cemetery. Donations will be accepted by the Fiends of the Cemetery and WASE (Women Arborists of the Southeast) but not required.
