ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King encourages Georgia residents to be safe when celebrating with fireworks this New Year’s Eve. Between 2006 and 2021, firework related injuries increased by 25%. In 2021, an estimated 11,500 people were injured in incidents involving fireworks and at least 9 were killed. While a majority of firework related incidents occur during Fourth of July Celebrations, a significant amount occurs during the New Year’s holiday. ATLANTA – MARTA will run more frequent train service through downtown Atlanta on New Year’s Eve, Saturday, Dec. 31, for the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl parade and game, and Peach Drop celebration. Beginning at noon, trains will run every 7½ minutes on the Red/Gold Line between Lindbergh Center Station and Airport Station and on the Blue/Green Line between Ashby Station and King Memorial Station. At 5 p.m., service frequency will increase to 6 minutes. Crews are onsite and working to repair water main breaks at the following locations: Rowland Road, I-85 and Shallowford Tucker Industrial Road and Florence Street Wildcat Road Rainbow Road While these repairs are ongoing, customers may experience low to no water pressure.
